Young Children - May 2008 - (Page 65) ment gift. Accepting the Legacy gift on behalf of NAEYC, executive director Mark Ginsberg said he was delighted to hear Jill Soto, a center colleague of Ruth Ann, say, “I know how much NAEYC means to her, so I am pleased you have created this opportunity for those of us who care so much about NAEYC to carry on our legacy.” Acknowledging the gift at the celebration event, Ruth Ann told the gathered group that for the past 10 years she had been thinking and reading about professional legacy and its meaning as she prepared NAEYC and SECA (Southern Early Childhood Association) conference presentations. She shared her feelings about the gift, saying, “I am humbled and honored to know that my colleagues chose to make a gift to NAEYC’s Building a Lasting Legacy Campaign in my honor because it represents the very legacy I wish to be remembered by: supporting young leaders, early childhood professionals, children, and families.” Over the years the Association has also benefited greatly from Ruth Ann’s leadership and service and especially appreciates her service as Vice President of the NAEYC Governing Board from 2002–2006. NAEYC joins in this tribute to a dedicated leader, teacher, and mentor. Gifts to NAEYC’s Building a Lasting Legacy Campaign can be made “in honor of” or “in memory of ” a colleague, mentor, teacher, family member, or friend. When making a gift, be sure to provide names and addresses of honorees or family so NAEYC can send appropriate acknowledgments.
