Increasing Diversity Outreach and Support in
Posters highlight innovative programs, support
services, and resources to assist colleges and
universities interested in expanding participation
and opportunities in international education among
underrepresented and nontraditional populations,
focusing on sexual orientation, disability, race and
ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and including
athletes, veterans, graduate students, firstgeneration students, and academic disciplines
such as science and engineering.
Intercultural Initiatives for Campus and
Posters showcase programs from campus
organizations and local communities that
emphasize supporting international students and
scholars and their families, and encouraging
interaction between community members,
international students, and returned study abroad
students to further intercultural understanding. Each
poster in the fair highlights related intercultural
theories, giving the audience an opportunity to
view explicit linkages between theory and practice
in presenters' work.
Orientation Programs as an Integral Support Service
This poster fair showcases model practices and
innovations in orientation for international students
and scholars coming to the United States, as well
as predeparture orientation models for students
participating on education abroad programs. Posters
will highlight a diversity of orientation programs,
such as those that: take into account changing
student and family needs; vary in length from one
day to several weeks; offer parent and family
programs; make use of virtual presentations and
other innovative activities; or support cross-cultural
communication and provide information on the
academic expectations and culture.
