Believe in Music - (Page 27) Believe in… Public Awareness Wanna Play? That’s the question NAMM is posing to consumers nationwide, encouraging people of all ages to go to their local community music store, purchase an instrument and experience the many health, social and educational benefits of making music. The Wanna Play? campaign kicked off November 15, 2006, with NAMM President and CEO Joe Lamond and Making Music magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Antoinette Follet speaking to radio and television morning news shows nationwide about how playing music can enhance people’s lives. The launch is estimated to have reached close to 10 million people. In coordination with the launch, NAMM’s Web site was revamped to streamline navigation and incorporate a new Wanna Play? area. Here, consumers have access to a Dealer Locator tool that directs them to their closest NAMM Member retailer and helps get them started. Rock star Gavin DeGraw volunteered to be an ambassador for the national effort, appearing in print ads as the first celebrity face of the campaign and on video speaking about his personal experiences and passion for making music. PuBLIC AWARENESS NAMM will continue to roll out the Wanna Play? campaign with the release of celebrity public service announcements and a special retailer’s guide, along with other programs to help Retailers and Commercial Members promote their businesses, such as opt-in events and promotions and Web banner ads. 27
