The Benefits of NAMM Membership It’S tHAt tIME OF yEAR WHEN MEMBERS ARE RENEWING tHEIR MEMBERSHIP AND uPDAtING CONtACt INFORMAtION—A PROCESS tHAt SPARkS tHE quEStION: Why belong? While NAMM works year-round on programs to help Members like you succeed, such as trade shows, market development, government relations, business services and various networking gatherings. These recent events also demonstrate NAMM’s commitment to growing the industry—and your business: NAMM Trade Shows This year’s Summer NAMM drew retailers looking to find the latest products for the upcoming fall and holiday selling seasons from nearly 500 music product exhibits. Each day also featured a variety of professional development opportunities, from the popular Breakfast Sessions to the 50+ shorter, focused presentations taught by industry experts in the NAMM Idea Center. And the 2009 NAMM Show will bring the international industry together again for four days of new products, education and ideas. 2008 Vans Warped Tour This teen-packed concert tour traveled to 45 markets across the United States and Canada, offering NAMM retail Members some great marketing opportunities, including a simple “promotion-in-a-box” for their stores and the chance to give lessons in a Wanna Play? tent at local tour stops. More than 120 participants opted in, with 106 boxes ordered and 25 retailers representing their stores on-site. This kind of publicity sends teens right through the doors of NAMM Member stores! NAMM’s Annual Advocacy Fly-In NAMM’s “Fly-In” event brings delegates from our industry to Washington, D.C., to learn more about our public affairs and government-relations activities. This May, armed with talking points, research binders and a passion for music education, these Members logged an unprecedented 73 meetings with elected officials and staffers. The powerful connections made here benefit the industry because today’s students are tomorrow’s music makers—and leaders. 1,000th Oral History Program Interview The Oral History Program, the focus of this month’s PLAYback cover story, captures important historical information and stories from longtime industry leaders, mentors and heroes. These video time capsules help document our industry’s history and enable us to learn from the successes and challenges of the past. Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg—people join NAMM for a variety of reasons, whether it’s the trade shows, market development opt-ins, money-saving business services or any of the association’s other Membership programs. However, you must be an active Member to take advantage of all NAMM has to offer. Please renew your Membership today at www.namm.org, so you can stay connected to your industry. 34 PLAYback http://www.namm.org
