A Rose Parade “Musical Extravaganza” NAMM, SeSame Street AND MuSIC FOR ALL ARE jOINING FORCES tO CREAtE A ROSE PARADE FLOAt LIkE NO OtHER. The theme for the 2009 Tournament of Roses Parade is “Hats Off to Entertainment,” giving NAMM and its partners the perfect opportunity to once again put music making in the international spotlight. Plans are now underway to build a multi-unit “musical extravaganza,” featuring a main float and three “pod” units rolling alongside. The main float will feature the familiar Sesame Street lamppost with beloved “neighbor” Bob McGrath riding along while an animated Big Bird plays the horn. A string quartet, jazz combo and two backup vocalists will also perform. The three smaller floats will feature a sculpted Elmo character along with a saxophone soloist, a crafted Abby Cadabby and a Latin guitarist, a large sculpture of Oscar the Grouch and two garbage-can percussionists. Surrounding each pod will be Music for All’s Bands of America Honor Band, made up of more than 300 musical performers, a 17-member dance troupe and a 32-member flag line. A world-drumming unit will also perform alongside the float and inspire parade viewers to catch the rhythm and spirit of the music-making extravaganza. “The Rose Parade is enjoyed by millions each year, making it a perfect opportunity to share the benefits of music making with people around the world,” says NAMM President and CEO Joe Lamond. The 2009 Rose Parade will take place on New Year’s Day in Pasadena, Calif. 8 PLAYback http://www.wannaplaymusic.com http://www.wannaplaymusic.com
