Exhibitor numbers were also up at the Nashville Convention Center, with 483 companies demonstrating products, including more than 150 first-time exhibitors. A few new display options this year attracted some of these companies, including the choices of smaller tabletop booth spaces on the show floor or in “The Club,” an area for setting up some products, literature and meeting tables—without the cost of a full exhibit space. In addition to a wide variety of exhibitors, some of which launched new products, each day featured professional development opportunities from start to finish, including the popular “State of the Industry” and “Best in Show” Breakfast Sessions, along with a new session theme, “Guerrilla Retailing: Unconventional Ways to Make Big Profits from Your Retail Business,” delivered by author and consultant Elly Valas. The NAMM Idea Center housed more than 30 shorter, focused sessions throughout the show, presented by industry experts offering unique ideas for retailers. The show’s theme was “Celebrating the Local Community Music Store,” which the association recognizes as a hub of musical activity in communities across the nation—and this concept carried through the show’s activities created to educate, entertain and unite show attendees. “We came together to celebrate the importance of local community music stores in this country, and the feedback tells us that many dealers found the business and education they were looking for,” said NAMM’s President/CEO Joe Lamond. “NAMM is grateful for the opportunity to provide the venue for both manufacturers and retailers who are ready to do business for a successful fall and holiday sales season.” For a show recap of 2008 Summer NAMM or to get a jump on planning for the 2009 NAMM Show, January 15–18 in Anaheim, Calif., log on to www.namm.org. 2 PLAYback http://www.namm.org http://www.namm.org
