Playback - Summer 2008 - (Page 34) VIEWPOINT Town Hall Meeting Impressions NAMM MEMBERS ShARE ThEIR ThOUGhTS ABOUT ThEIR LOCAL TOWN hALL MEETING, WhERE ATTENDEES DISCUSSED ISSUES FACING ThE INDUSTRy AND ShARED IDEAS FOR INCREASING BUSINESS ThROUGh NAMM’S CURRENT ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS. The NAMM Town Hall Meeting tour started on on a positive note, which continued through the final stop. Attendees believe this open dialogue about the changing economy, new ideas and industry programs is beneficial. “The Town Hall Meeting gave me an example of seeing the people on the other side of the aisle—the retailers. I’m taking away some ideas on how to get our customers closer to what we’re doing. I think it’s time we shake things up and try some new things.” CAThy DUNCAN, SEyMOUR DUNCAN “I thought Joe Lamond did a tremendous job of letting everyone speak what they had to say. But the one thing is that we’re in an industry that we love, and we look forward to getting up in the morning. That’s a blessing we can all be grateful for. I’m working on a book called The Survival of the Independent Music Stores, and some of the ideas I heard here will be in the book.” “I thought the Town Hall Meeting was a great forum for people to talk about the industry. There’s some anxiety about the overall economy, but that cannot blind us from seizing the opportunities that are out there. I think the Wanna Play? point-of-sale materials and the Vans Warped Tour participation are some things I’ll be looking into coming out of this meeting.” BRyAN MCCANN, INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC “I thought the meeting was very valuable. I learned a lot more about what NAMM’s purpose is and how I can dial into it. I also came up with some marketing ideas while listening to other people and ideas for increasing our outreach in our community.” FRANk GREEN, MUSIC FOR EVERyONE ThOMAS SEyMOUR, ThE FRET hOUSE “I thought it was great—very informative. I like the Wanna Play? “I was surprised by the amount of people at the Chicago Town Hall plan and I want to check into that. I think it will benefit retailers Meeting. Some of them came pretty far—so that says a lot. There and merchants. I’m going to check into our stores and their was a lot of open dialogue and talk of mentoring, taking someone relationships with local schools to help them buy locally more easily.” under your wing, teaching them the ropes and keeping this thing going.
