Playback - Winter 2008 - (Page 26) NAMM FOUNDATION Music for All National Grand Championships Museum of Making Music Explores the Violin, Past and Present The NAMM Foundation was proud to help support the Music for All Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., November 14–16. Nearly 100 outstanding high school marching bands from across the United States performed at the 32nd annual Grand Nationals. Many of these hard-working bands were supported by their local NAMM Member stores. NAMM acknowledged these Members with a full-page ad in the Grand Nationals program. The event was a perfect venue to reach people with www.supportmusic.com advocacy messages and encourage them to support music in their local schools. On February 23, the Museum of Making Music will unveil The Violin in America: Old World Tradition, New World Sound, an exciting premiere exhibition that explores the history of the violin from its early European roots to the unique design of contemporary masters. Highlighting both the traditional acoustic and the contemporary electric violin, the exhibition will premiere a large and comprehensive body of work, including instruments by Lloyd Loar and Rickenbacker, as well as contemporary electric violin makers such as John Jordan Violins, Ned Steinberger Violins, Mark Wood Violins, Yamaha Violins and Zeta Violins. 26 PLAYback http://www.supportmusic.com http://www.supportmusic.com
