Playback - Winter 2009 - (Page 30) MUSIC NOTES Doing Well by Doing Good COMING TO THE AID OF PEOPLE IN NEED, TWO NAMM MEMBER COMPANIES DO THE INDUSTRY PROUD AND REMIND US ALL THAT MUSIC TRULY HAS THE ABILITY TO HELP AND HEAL. A Real Guitar Hero The days in Iraq go slowly. The dusty landscape is hot. Relief is hard to find. Squadron Chaplain CH (CPT) Matthew Hamrick is far from home, far from his loved ones—and far from any sort of music. One day Matthew decides to write a letter to Brazen Guitars, a Christian manufacturer, asking if they could help supply him with musical equipment to use in his Army ministry. Wanting to make the most of the guitar he had with him—one badly in need of repair—he hopes to improve the musical presence at his spiritual gatherings. The letter arrives, one of many requests the guitar manufacturer has received. But the people at Brazen quickly realize that for soldiers stationed in Iraq, music is a way to express themselves and escape the tension of battle. Matthew’s mission is one the company can get behind. “Here’s a guy fighting for his country in a broken world…where more than anything they need that fellowship, and music is a great way to create it,” says Josh Ortega of Brazen Guitars. “We were so touched that we decided to send a few guitars. We told him we wanted to give him some love in a place where you don’t feel much love.” Here’s a guy fighting for his country in a broken world… where more than anything they need that fellowship, and music is a great way to create it. 30 PLAYback
