Playback - Winter 2009 - (Page 4) THE BEAT A Note from Joe Coming Together to Invest in the Future We’d like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. To get 2009 off to a pro-active start, we are now preparing for the four action-packed days when the industry will “come together” at the NAMM Show in Anaheim. Over 1,500 exhibitors have worked all year long to bring the hottest products and the latest innovations to the show, enabling buyers from all around the world to bring these products back home to their customers. After a tumultuous 2008, the industry is set to gather and chart the course for the coming year, and everyone attending will return to their businesses better prepared for the opportunities that lie ahead. life-long music makers, play music with their families and value the proven benefits of music education. I am an optimist and believe that the industry’s best days lie ahead. I recently quoted the award-winning author Eric Hoffer, who once observed, “In times of change, learners inherit the earth; while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.” If we are to realize the full potential of this great industry, it will take the creativity and innovation of us all. Let’s make the NAMM Show 2009 the start of the change that will bring music making to more people than ever before! Our economy is changing, and we may actually find ourselves in a better place than we ever envisioned—where people become lifelong music makers, play music with their families and value the proven benefits of music education. The best and brightest will gather each morning at the NAMM University Breakfast Sessions and throughout the day at the Idea Center. This year, the NAMM U sessions were created specifically to meet the needs of progressive retailers, including eight sessions devoted to technology solutions, a six-part series of participative selling ideas for retailers, marketing and store design tips, lesson program pointers and more—real step-by-step plans that you can apply to your store right away. Our economy is changing, and we may actually find ourselves in a better place than we ever envisioned—where people become Joe Lamond President and CEO, NAMM joe@namm.org
