Trading suits for guitars and neckties for drums, Procter & Gamble’s The Consumer Republic, a rock band from Geneva, Switzerland, was crowned international champion during the eighth annual FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands, hosted October 4 at the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. All five members of the winning band will now travel to Cleveland in April to attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Created in 2001, the FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands encourages friendly competition between a diverse collection of companies that recognize how music helps develop teamwork, discipline and creativity—all valued skills in business. And with 82 percent (according to a NAMMfunded Gallup Poll) of people who don’t currently play an instrument wishing they did, these bands prove that even in the high-stress corporate environment, people are coming together to make music and live out their rock ’n’ roll fantasies. FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands is a partnership between NAMM, FORTUNE Magazine and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and celebrates the positive effects of getting together to make music. Along with FORTUNE, NAMM and The Rock Hall, the Battle of the Corporate Bands is sponsored by Gibson Guitar, KeyBank, Air Products and Sonicbids. Disney’s Little Einsteins Join Arts PSA Campaign NAMM FOUNDATION-FUNDED EFFORT USES THE POPULARITY OF DISNEY’S LittLe einsteins CHARACTERS TO ENCOURAGE KIDS AND PARENTS TO TAKE PART IN THE ARTS. Americans for the Arts, the NAMM Foundation and the Ad Council are collaborating with Disney’s Little Einsteins as part of the mix in their national public service advertising (PSA) campaign, “The Arts. Ask for More.” The new TV spots, which debuted in October, help inspire children to play music, dance and draw together with family and friends. Created in 2001, the “The Arts. Ask for More.” campaign was designed to increase parental involvement in championing arts education both in and out of school, and through community programs. The campaign targets parents and caregivers of children pre-K to eighth grade and directs audiences to visit the Americans for the Arts Web site, where they can learn 10 simple ways to incorporate the arts into children’s lives. The television, radio, print and Internet PSAs for the campaign have reached more than 150 million households through $150 million in donated media coverage. You can see the PSA series for “The Arts.
