Playback - Winter 2009 - (Page 9) NAMM Asked Consumers “Wanna Play?” During the Holidays FOLLOWING A NATIONAL CONSUMER SURVEY CONFIRMING THE “GIFT OF MUSIC” AS THE PERFECT CHOICE FOR KIDS AND ADULTS, NAMM AND Making Music MAGAzINE SHARED TOP MUSICAL GIFT PICKS FOR THE 2008 HOLIDAY SEASON WITH LOCAL AND NATIONAL MEDIA According to a survey of 1,000 consumers conducted by Impulse Research and commissioned by NAMM, learning to play a musical instrument was one of the top New Year’s resolutions for 2008. Survey results also showed that giving musical instruments could be the perfect gift to help friends and family reduce stress, provide a fulfilling form of entertainment and bring the family closer together during the holidays. Additionally, an overwhelming 86 percent of survey participants responded that given the current economic climate, they planned to seek less expensive forms of entertainment during the holidays, such as music making, that the family could enjoy together at home. Capitalizing on these findings, NAMM and Making Music magazine shared the news with the media, many of whom were seeking a fresh angle on holiday gift-giving. Making Music magazine even came up with a list of the most popular music gifts for the year, helping to remove the guesswork from holiday shopping. The gift categories were separated into appropriate age groups and tailored for every musical level and budget. “ To give the gift of music this holiday season, there’s no better place to look than your local community music store, where you can find quality instruments and other tools to make music a greater part of holiday traditions.” “To give the gift of music this holiday season, there’s no better place to look than your local community music store,” NAMM President and CEO Joe Lamond told the media, “where you can find quality instruments and other tools to make music a greater part of holiday traditions.” Consumers were invited to visit www.wannaplaymusic.com to see the complete list of musical gift picks, learn more about the benefits of making music and learn how to get started playing music at any age. The Web site also helped visitors to locate their local NAMM Member retailer, where they could purchase their musical gifts or embark on some music making of their own. MORE IN STORE FOR 2009 The Wanna Play? campaign will expand its outreach efforts to inspire consumers to make music in 2009 with a Wanna Play? film contest in the works for February and Wanna Play Music Week slated for the first week of May—all with the goal of bringing new customers through your door.
