A wannabe anthropologist with a background in journalism, Sturdivant enjoys exploring the book industry’s role in the development of technological and cultural trends. He lives in Narberth, Pa. outside of Philadelphia with his wife and two young children. JIM STurDIvANT is a Contributing Editor to vErlE SuTToN entered the paper business in the late 1970s, after a stint at Merrill Lynch in St. Louis. He assumed the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Niagara of Wisconsin in 1984, and in 1986 undertook that same role for Lake Superior Paper Industries. In 1991 he founded and assumed the Presidency of R.O.S. Paper Sales, Inc., a company that sells paper on behalf of mills throughout North America and Europe. In 1999, Sutton also founded The Reel Time Report. In 2003, Reel Time was sold to Forestweb under the condition that he continue to produce the content for Reel Time. In addition to selling paper and analyzing the paper markets, Sutton has worked on a variety of consulting projects, and multi-client reports. has been helping organizations and individuals grow into excellence for more than 20 years. As a licensed counselor and certified professional coach, Vikre is a popular seminar leader and trainer. Since joining McMurry in 2001, Vikre has developed programs to promote hiring excellence, leadership success, career development, relationship building, and a “best place” culture. She has taught at the university level, presented at national conventions, and written for professional journals. Vikre’s degrees include a B.A. in Behavioral Science and an M.A. in Human Resources and Counseling, and she is a certified professional coach. Publishing Executive Hall of Fame in 2007. While at one time a contemporary of Guttenberg, he is currently VP, Director of Editing, Design, Production, and Manufacturing for Oxford University Press. Prior to that he was VP of Production for Pearson Education/Prentice Hall, Worth Publishing and HarperCollins. His background is in content management, change management, production and ink-on-paper. He has been co-chair of the Charity Committee for the NY Bookbinders’ Guild for 16 years, and is a member of the Guild’s board. Before joining Silverchair in early 2006, White spent five years as Executive Director of Electronic Production at Elsevier, serving the Health Sciences Division and dedicated to topics such as markup languages and supporting tools, content management, and workflow engineering. His 1974 classic, “Editing by Design,” was the first book dealing solely with the process of magazine-making and was recently published in a completely new third edition. Over the past 12 years, Terhune has led the Wiley charge to keep books in print through the use of digital technology. In 1995, Terhune joined Wiley as an Associate Manager of Estimating for the Publishing Support Operations group in Corporate Finance. In 2003, with a whole team of IT, Operations, Inventory and Manufacturing folks behind her, she launched the Wiley POD Program which currently includes over 6,500 titles and has grown to become a multimillion dollar revenue opportunity for Wiley. Terhune began her publishing career from a temporary position that turned permanent in the Production Department at Cliggott Publishing, a medical journal publisher. JABIN WHITE is Vice President of Marketing at lArrY TuNKS is the CIO of Congressional Quarterly, the world- class provider of information on government, politics and public policy. He has been with the nationally recognized publisher since 1998. During Tunks’ tenure CQ has designed and built a state-of-theart, XML-based content creation and editorial management system, and a data delivery infrastructure that supports a circulation based business-to-business suite of electronic products for professional legislative affairs offices, federal government agencies law offices and political pundits. Project Manager at Random House, Inc., and is responsible for a number of cost-savings and efficiency initiatives. In addition to his supply chain duties, he is the Project Manager of Random House’s Environmental Paper Initiative, one of the most comprehensive paper policies in the publishing industry. Van Der Laan is also the Deputy Chair of Random House’s Employee Green Committee, as well as the company’s representative on the Bertelsmann Environment Task Force.
