American-made planetary mixer receives patents A new planetary mixer from Mixer Systems Inc. has been granted two design patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patents were awarded for the two different drive configurations of the mixer, depending on the size. The same patents are pending in Canada and Mexico. The planetary model from Mixer Systems, based in Pewaukee, Wis., is the only planetary-style mixer to be both designed and manufactured in the United States, the company says, adding that all other planetary mixers are either built entirely overseas or assembled in the United States from foreign-made components. The patents further set Mixer System’s planetary mixer apart in the marketplace, according to Roger Gladen, president of Mixer Systems. Input from customers was an important part of the design process, he says. The planetary design of the new mixer makes it one of the fastest and most thorough units available. The counter-current rotating action of the mixing arms can produce a homogeneous batch of concrete, aggregate, liquid and other materials in as little as 30 seconds.
