As the first woman to chair NPCA, she made national news and was one of the featured speakers at the first Women in Concrete forum, held during World of Concrete. But it was her strong business sense and string of accomplishments during her tenure that led to her selection as the Yoakum Award winner, Gable said. “Joan brought a tough-minded business approach to the industry,” Gable said. “Her focus on quality production, financial discipline, safe working conditions and employee education created a rising tide that will lift the industry for years to come.” Hoskin Award presented to Steve Smart Steve Smart, Hy-Span systems manager with Independent Concrete Pipe Co. in Indianapolis, has been named the Douglas G. Hoskin Award winner by the National Precast Concrete Association. The award, which recognizes significant achievements in membership development, is presented annually at the NPCA Annual Convention. “Steve has always been one of our most active volunteers, and he is a great advocate for NPCA,” said Ty E.
