Cotton fields in Glendale have been replaced by the state-of-the-art University of Phoenix Stadium. We have many more people, activities and travel options. Since 1996, we’ve added more than 100 miles of freeways, including the Loop 101 next to the stadium in Glendale. Light rail construction is underway in downtown Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa. And, as the Valley’s reputation as Downtown Phoenix, a sports leader and future light rail tourist destination grows, so does Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Since 1996, Sky Harbor has added a new control tower, runway and rental car facility, and now ranks among the top ten busiest airports in the country. We’ve also added water. In 1999, Tempe Town Lake opened in downtown Tempe. More than two million people visit Town Lake each year to boat, fish, and attend concerts and festivals.
