SANDERS, Greene County Pension Representative H. JAY WALKER, Houston County JANUARY 2009 www.accg.org n this first address to my fellow members of this outstanding association as President of ACCG, I would like to thank all of you – my fellow officers and the entire ACCG membership – for the confidence you have expressed in my leadership. ACCG has meant so much to me in my two terms as a Bulloch County commissioner, and By Jan Tankersley as my third term as a county commissioner gets under way, I know the support and the invaluable President association with my peers through ACCG will continue to sustain me as I serve my community. My involvement with this remarkable association, and with the many outstanding county government officials I have had the honor to know, has enabled me to approach my own community with innovative ways to provide leadership, and more so than any other professional affiliation. I extend gratitude and acknowledgment, as well, to my predecessor, 2008-09 ACCG President Virginia Gray of Clayton County. Her professionalism and high level of service have been an inspiration to me, to her fellow officers, and to county officials across the state. During a very difficult and hectic election season, Virginia never let the association and her duties as ACCG President down, having accepted the challenge begun by Immediate ACCG Past President Tom McMichael of Houston County to lead the association through the development of its current Strategic Planning Process. With Virginia’s dedication, the plan is being brought to its conclusion and ACCG will soon have a new Strategic Plan in place. We can all anticipate great progress for our association thanks to this milestone plan, which I will speak more of in coming editorials. In the meantime, Virginia is to be commended for attending every ACCG District Meeting held in November, during the final month of her tenure as President, and for presiding at the Fall I ACCG is always there to help you, no matter what the challenge, and the challenges are mounting.
