When economic conditions are less than desirable, that challenge can seem even greater. Representing one of the most outstanding camping values for more than 50 years, 4-H camp as administered by Georgia 4-H and through the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and College of Family and Consumer Sciences, provides a fun and educational week for nearly 9,000 young people in Georgia. Add to that the nearly 1,000 adults, composed mostly of professional 4-H staff and certified, caring volunteers, and the true camping experience is complete. In counties all over the state, young people are rushing home from 4-H meetings in February, promising all types of good behavior to family members in exchange for the opportunity to attend 4-H summer camp later in the year. With still nearly four months to go before school is out, 4-H members are already dreaming about the most exciting week of their summers. For many families, deciding how their children will spend the eight to 10 weeks of summer vacation can be quite a challenge. There might be time set aside to spend with relatives; there might be a week or two of day camp options; maybe even a week of family vacation. Even if T Each 4-H member will return home after five days and four nights with a lifetime of memories to accompany new life skills, new friendships and new talents.
