SANDERS, Greene County Pension Representative H. JAY WALKER, Houston County FEBRUARY 2009 www.accg.org s t he Newly Elected Commissioners’ Training Progra m got under way in Athens this past December, I, like many of my colleagues, having been in office awhile, couldn’t help but be nostalgic about those first tentative days of training we were exposed to as newly elected county commissioners, ourselves. By Jan Tankersley During the state-mandated 3 1/2 days of inPresident tensive exposure to all the facets of county government leadership you will contend with, you are in the expert hands of training professionals at The University of Georgia’s (UGA) Carl Vinson Institute of Government, as well as highly experienced county government officials, from managers and administrators to fi nance officers and experts of many kinds. The training doesn’t stop with the Newly Elected Training Program, either – it goes on to offer non-required but absolutely invaluable instruction programs in many areas of county concerns. All are designed to make you the best county government leader you can be. Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) Training Programs, co-developed and co-administered with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at UGA are, in fact, among the most rigorous and respected in the nation. I can personally attest that these training programs have made me, and all the colleagues I know in county government, better informed and more confident commissioners. Not to mention, more capable. A Association County Commissioners of Georgia Training Programs, co-developed and co-administered with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at UGA are among the most rigorous and respected in the nation.
