At press time, Oconee County had reached water levels that were under the 10 percent mandated by the state, along with few other counties in the state. ma nagement pla n. “ T he decision would normally have not come up for consideration for another year, but the project is essentially a prerequisite to all the state permits needed before the federal government will issue their own permits,” said attorney Scott Cole, working with a group headed by attorney Tommy Craig, project coordinator involved in the permit acquisition process. Last August, the Paulding Cou nt y Boa rd of Commissioners was allowed to submit the county’s application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, prior to changes anticipated in the Statewide Water Management Plan. The move secured the project’s “place in line,” according to the Dallas New Era. A heightened awareness of water issues owing to Georgia’s record drought is thought to have benefitted the permitting process for the Richland Creek project, Cole added. Involvement in “TechSmart” will also make the county eligible for related grant monies, County Manager Clinton Lester said. The pickup a nd d isposa l of “e-waste” is also being developed with the assistance of Electronic Recycling Services (ERS). The program takes discarded electronic products that are damaged or obsolete and helps recycle them. Included in the effort are all discarded computers, monitors, phones, fax machines, printers, copiers, power supplies, switches, routers, cell phones, rechargeable batteries and cables. Items not included are televisions and similar household electronics. Lester said the county will place a container at a convenience center on each side of the county for office electronics disposal to facilitate the program. ■ 307503_georgia.indd 1 8/22/07 9:22:19 AM We Specialize in Asphalt Reclamation, FDR, Soil & Base Stabilization, Expanded Asphalt Base Stabilization, Highways and Streets, Grading and Pipe, Concrete Curb Call David, Dale, or John at 770-541-7333 blountconstruction.com 1730 Sands Place, Marietta, GA 30067 “Give us your worst road, we will make it your best” 36 GEORGIA 360727_Blount.indd 1 COUNTY GOVERNMENT 1/17/08 9:15:54 AM http://www.surplusproperty.doas.ga.gov
