Georgia County Government - March 2009 - (Page 27) port to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, she served as counsel to the Board of Commissioners, the Pension Board of Trustees, the Benefits Committee and other elected and appointed Douglas County officials and staff. In her position with ACCG, Pridgen also provides general legal support to the association, serving as counsel to the executive director and Board of Managers, as well as to the trustees of the workers’ compensation and health benefits programs. Pridgen also coordinates the Public Safety and the Courts policy committee and, in concert with the committee’s leadership, assists the development of priorities for the Georgia Legislature. She also will serve as a liaison with other interest groups, state agencies and legislators and draft legislation to accomplish the policies of the association. Pridgen is also responsible for analyzing legislation proposed by other groups and legislators; and lobbying for passage, defeat or amendment of legislation proposed by ACCG. She also will guide development of educational programs for county commissioners, staff and county attorneys; provide general legal technical assistance to member counties of the association, prepare legal memoranda, model ordinances, and appellate court briefs in support of county positions. Pridgen earned her B.S. degree from the University of Michigan in 1989 and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia College of Law in 1992. She and her husband, Donald, live in Douglas County and are the parents of two boys. Carmenza Whitley, Executive Assistant armenza Whitley joined ACCG i n Nove m b e r a s e x e c ut i ve assistant to Executive Director Jerr y R . Grif f in. In t his position, Whitley assists the executive director in all facets of his administrative duties, and assists as needed with the coordination of staff travel, ACCG meetings and special events. Whitley’s experience includes eight years as executive assistant to the president of the Gypsum Division of Georgia Pacific LLC, where she provided diversified administrative support to the president and his direct reports. She also organized and managed meeting calendars for the president, VPs, regional managers, served as office manager for the Gypsum Division corporate staff, scheduled travel both domestic and international and served as a meeting coordinator. Other duties included managing the corporate vehicle program and serving as “campaign manager” for annual United Way fundraising efforts in the corporation. Whitley and her husband, Herman, are longtime residents of Clayton County.
