Soliciting community support: Organizations like the League of Women Voters, Women in Film and countless other groups throughout the community will be helpful by providing manpower, meeting venues, stamps and other tangible and intangible support. Women in Film of Atlanta produced a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) that may be viewed at www.wifa.org/current_psa.html. 6. Raising funds: Funding goals may include needs for emergency and long-term housing and services for victims, media campaigns and community events. The Atlanta Coalition raised more than $50,000 in one night by hosting a series of dinner parties to benefit Angela’s House. 7. Providing treatment for victims: Treatment in the form of a residential “safe house” or facility may require zoning, licensure, program design, initial operations, staffing and training to serve as a life-changing experience for the victims. Angela’s House is the only treatment center of its kind in the Atlanta area serving as a comprehensive, therapeutic housing facility providing effective treatment options for victimized girls. Since the victories for Atlanta’s victims in the battle against the sexual exploitation of children, Commissioner Boxill has continued her work by leading the NACo Campaign Against Sexual Exploitation Taskforce (CASE) at the request of NACo President Eric Coleman. CASE Taskforce The CASE Taskforce is made up of NACo members from across the United States who are passionate about ridding their communities of the sexual exploitation of children. The CASE Taskforce has encouraged at least 43 counties in 22 states to get involved in this nationwide campaign to end the Sexual Exploitation of Children. Joining NACo’s efforts is the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). NCMEC is a remarkable resource that has made available posters to assist in promoting public awareness in counties who wish to be a part of the fight against the Sexual Exploitation. Counties can request to have their logos added to the NCMEC posters and/or to receive posters for distribution by contacting the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at (703) 274-3900. The sexual exploitation of children is a heinous crime against innocent children who will never regain what is stolen from them. Please get involved, be a part of the solution in your county. Use the seven steps listed above to make a difference, or commit to doing one of the following to begin the process to save our daughters: • Pass a Resolution or Local Legislation • Host a Town Hall Meeting • Write a Letter to State Legislators • Produce a Commercial • Create a Poster For examples of information used by the Atlanta Coalition referenced above, please refer to the Sourcebook to End the Sexual Exploitation of Children, located on the CASE Web site at www.naco.org/case.
