Georgia County Government - July 2008 - (Page 17) inland coastal Georgia, although most counties are feeling no special growth pressures yet, save for Laurens, Paulk says. “The Chamber of Commerce gets calls from Floridians wanting to move here all the time,” Paulk says. “They’re looking for land, lots, or homes to purchase. They can sell their land in Florida and turn it into 50 acres in Southeast Georgia. And many are doing just that. We believe the trend will continue.” In Laurens County, developers are in the process of building a $30 million senior living community project, Moore Station Villas, incorporating an assisted living facility, Benton House. Another development of 600 acres on the Oconee River, known as Rock Springs, will feature home sites between three acres and 10 acres, now paved and ready for builders. All underground utilities are planned, and septic tanks will take care of sewer systems, with drinking water to be furnished by private wells. In something of a unique “land acquisition,” Rogers reports that a group of nursing professionals from Florida banded together to purchase 40 acres in Fairview Park Hospital, privately operated, serves Laurens County and surrounding counties in the region, including Wheeler, Treutlen, Telfair and Montgomery. Laurens County recently, to move here, build homes and work in the major medical facilities located in the county. These include the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Dublin as well as the privately owned and operated Fairview Park Hospital. “They’re from Tampa,” Rogers explains. “They plan to subdivide the property, build houses and work in the community’s medical centers.” Medical and Emergency Preparedness Rogers says Laurens County, the county most in the region rely on for emergency medical service, has greatly improved its emergency response protocols in recent years. “In the face of a ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT continued on page 18 Celebrating 63 Years of Quality BUSINESS & INDUSTRY KEEP US BUILDING!!!
