Georgia County Government - July 2008 - (Page 20) ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT continued from page 19 a result of industry stepping up on the scale anticipated in the next year. “We’re proud of what Laurens County has done,” says Arnold Horton, economic development director for Wheeler County. “The county is our economic anchor in the region, and we believe they are a model jurisdiction for economic development initiatives.” For their part, Laurens County is glad to share the prosperity the county has with the whole region. As Paulk notes: “We’re very fortunate to be in a community that knows the value of working together. Laurens County is the ‘older sibling’ of the region, that works with all the counties surrounding.” With its history of regional partnerships and on the threshhold of major economic progress, all officials in the “heart of Middle Georgia” counties of Laurens, Treutlen and Wheeler have their eyes on the prize – becoming the bio-energy corridor for the nation. They certainly have the raw material – hundreds of thousands of acres of Georgia’s famous loblolly pines, and waste from wood manufacturing, ready for processing into cellulosic ethanol. Combined with economic advantages, an ample workforce and local officials who will roll out the red carpet with tax incentives and gracious facilitation concerning the fine points of relocating to the region, it’s certain that while it may be the first, Range Fuels Corp. won’t be the last green energy company to avail itself of the many advantages of siting manufacturing facilities in the “heart of Middle Georgia.” ■ (Ms.) Willie Paulk, President Cell: 888-847-0823 • wpaulk@dublin-georgia.com Dublin-Laurens County Chamber of Commerce & Development Authority 1200 Bellevue Avenue • P.O.
