NACoNews NACo Seeks Childhood Obesity Prevention Policies, Programs, Initiatives D oes your county have a policy, program or initiative that aims to prevent childhood obesity and promote healthy living? National Association of Counties (NACo) is collecting best practices for its upcoming Healthy Counties Database and wants to highlight the good work your county is doing. The database will be searchable on NACo’s Web site this summer and is intended to serve as a resource for county leaders interested in taking steps to help children and families live healthy lifestyles. Please e-mail relevant information to Casey Dillon at cdillon@naco.org or contact her at (202) 942-4243. ■ New Edition of Local Laws Publication Available as Downloadable File F or the first time, current information about the structure, operations, powers, responsibilities and limitations of the governing authority in each Georgia county is available as a downloadable print file through the new seventh edition of Local Laws Affecting County Commissioners in Georgia. The useful reference simplifies the process of searching for information. Like previous editions, Local Laws brings together in a single publication legal citations for the enabling acts that established each county’s governing authority, along with summaries of subject matter of all amendments to such acts. The counties are listed alphabetically. Local Laws Affecting County Commissioners in Georgia also covers other acts and local constitutional amendments, listed with summaries of subject matter, and legal citations. The publication is current through the 2007 session of the Georgia General Assembly. The author of the new edition is Paul T. Hardy, attorney with the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Hardy is the author of the previous six editions and has written and edited numerous other local government handbooks and legal resources.
