MELVIN DAVIS Oconee County By Virginia Gray President s I remarked in my opening address to the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) membership in Savannah, the policy process our association provides for commissioners is among the most valuable services offered. I cannot over-emphasize the importance of your participation in this process, or in the “nuts and bolts” that hold it together, our policy committees. The ACCG policy process enables us to avail ourselves of ongoing education and information – which we can use in order to prepare for the coming Legislature – through a yearlong process of committee deliberations, beginning each spring following the annual meeting. Committee deliberations take place under the auspices of our standing policy committees – General County Government, Public Safety and the Courts, Natural Resources and Environment, Economic Development and Transportation, Health and Human Services and Revenue and Finance. Our policy staff convenes a series of these in-depth forums beginning in early summer on policy concerns that directly affect counties and how they operate daily. If you have not investigated joining an ACCG policy committee, do so. There is surely a policy committee, or perhaps several, of special interest to you and your constituents.
