One of my primary priorities as president is getting more members involved in the policy process and the standing committees. Later in the year, counties’ success at the capitol during the legislative session could depend on progress made, and decisions pursued, by counties during the deliberations of these committees. ACCG has a very capable policy staff, but they need your ongoing involvement and assistance. You will be apprised of current topics relevant to managing growth, transportation, the environment, juvenile and elder citizens’ concerns, criminal justice and the adequacy of local health care and related human services. It is my belief, and that of many of my colleagues, that ACCG’s strength and continued success depends on the membership’s involvement in the policy process. If you aren’t on a policy committee, find the one that most interests you and join it. A stronger 2009 County Platform will result if everybody’s voice is heard. Talk to your leaders within ACCG – your president, your officers, your representative on the Board of Managers, as well as to the ACCG staff. All are easily accessible via e-mail, listed on the ACCG Web site (www.accg.org) or via a telephone call to ACCG headquarters (404-522-5022). ■ 5 A www.cdm.com Atlanta, Georgia 404 720-1400 ® 4 Searching for Bargains?
