Georgia County Government-August 2008 - (Page 38) StaffNews Andrea Reed, Andrew Watson New ACCG Policy Interns ndrea Reed joined Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) as a policy intern this summer. Reed is attending the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, where she is earning a Master of Public Administration in management and finance. She holds bachelors’ degrees in international affairs and political science from the University of Georgia (UGA) and North Georgia College and State University, respectively. Prior to becoming an ACCG intern, she worked as a graduate research assistant for a partnership developed between Georgia State University and the Pew Center on the States Government Performance Project. She has also worked as a development and project manager for Habitat for Humanity of Hall County, where she successfully obtained numerous grant awards and implemented several operations improvements for the organization. Reed’s projects for ACCG include a comprehensive analysis of county budget and financial information, updating the county database, attending meetings and assisting the policy staff. Andrew Watson also joined ACCG as a legislative intern this summer. Watson is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the UGA with a bachelor’s degree in political science, a minor in religion and a certificate in leadership. During his college career, Watson was a part of University Judiciary, serving as the 2007-08 executive director. In 2004, he served in Congressman Phil Gingrey’s Rome District Office, interned in Washington, D.C., in 2007 for Sen. Johnny Isakson, and worked for Brock Clay Government and Public Affairs during the Georgia General Assembly 2008 legislative session. Watson’s projects for ACCG include updating county Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) information, creating fact sheets and spreadsheets, providing statistical analysis, attending meetings and assisting the policy staff. ■ Legal Intern Andrew O’Connell Joins ACCG A Andrew O’Connell joined Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) as a legal intern this summer. O’Connell completed his second year of law school at the University of Georgia (UGA), where he is a note editor for the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law. He is also a 2005 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UGA, with degrees in political science and history. Prior to interning with ACCG, O’Connell interned in the Office of the Chief of Staff for Governor Sonny Perdue. He also gained an understanding of the legislative process by working as a legislative assistant with the government affairs fi rm, Piedmont Public Affairs, during the 2006 legislative session. O’Connell’s projects for ACCG include creating a model ethics ordinance, updating the SPLOST Handbook, authoring the Counties and the Law newsletter and assisting the legal and policy staff.
