Olens says that through the recent $40 million parks bond, the county has now purchased $38 million in lands, the acreage of which includes a section of historic Hyde Farm, which the county will develop and operate in conjunction with the National Park Service. A second $40 million parks bond, following one the same size that succeeded in November 2006, is slated for the November 2008 ballot. “Because the county’s general obligation debt was lower than $20 million,” Olens points out, “the county was able to add these park bonds. We could have been more aggressive with park lands over the past decade,” Olens concedes. “But we’re very proud that we got this bond passed and anticipate another $40 million bond in November 2008, neither of which will require a millage increase.” Summer concerts on Lake Acworth.
