In association with the Trust for Public Land, the county’s community development department completed and implemented the Cobb County “Greenprint.” The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) model program will allow the county’s staff to manage and prioritize remaining undeveloped land and those habitats within the county which are designated “sensitive.” The program will greatly assist officials in developing growth management policies and in the purchase of future new greenspace and park lands. Meanwhile, the county works on “all cylinders” too to promote public awareness and involvement in recycling and keeping the county beautiful. The Keep Cobb Beautiful (KCB) organization garnered a first-place affi liate designation at the state and national levels last year, in addition to other honors for ongoing efforts to keep the county free of unsightly trash. Keep America Beautiful named KCB a top affi liate in December 2007. Last October, Keep Georgia Beautiful, under the auspices of the Department of Community Affairs, awarded the Cobb affi liate three first place and two second place awards. The county also promotes all kinds of recycling, and is “out front” dealing with the major challenge of used electronics.
