Hankerson adds that the Hyde Farm Acquisition will also result in more curriculum available to enhance learning for school systems. “It’s important for county government to continually be in dialogue with the school systems so we all know what our objectives are, and we’re measuring our progress. We’re looking actively for more ways to collaborate with schools,” Hankerson notes. “Last year, the county combined a Make-A-Wish Foundation 5K and FunFest with both school systems’ wellness programs, to include kids in the event, which was quite popular and successful.” Kennesaw State College University, Chattahoochee Technical College and Southern Polytechnic State University offer fi rst-rate degree programs, Olens remarks, including new Leadership and Business Ph.D. programs at Kennesaw State, which recently also added a Dance major. Marietta Museum of History. “The universities here are doing great,” the chairman points out. “Southern Polytechnic has the third highest SAT entrance score in the whole university system. It trains a lot of engineering students from the ranks of minorities, of which we’re also proud.” Olens believes the county has a similar relationship with its institutions of higher learning as it does with its cities. “We’re very supportive of them,” he asserts.
