Georgia County Government - October 2008 - (Page 19) This retail business in Adel (Cook County) is a good example of how graceful, still solid, older architecture is included in downtown business districts. off I-75, the center supplies Florida and Atlanta Target stores. Another significant private enterprise located in Tifton is a multi-entity, cooperative peanut processing plant. Cook County’s Waldron also points out that the region has become known as the “pre-fabricated steel building capitol of the South.” Cook, Tift and Turner counties all have substantial manufacturers that supply pre-fabricated steel buildings, amounting to more of these industries in any one region outside Texas. Always a good indicator, industrial parks are doing well in Cook, Tift and Turner. Two grants, one from the OneGeorgia Authority and another from the federal government, recently allowed Turner County to complete a new industrial park in the city of Ashburn with infrastructure including water, sewer and electric service, paving, lighting, landscaping and a lift station for a total of $1.8 million. The completed park has attracted developers and project managers for prospective tenants, says Commission Chairman Daryl Hall. “McElroy Metal and Nationwide Fiberglass decided to build their own custom buildings here,” he says. Nationwide Fiberglass is the third largest maker of fiberglass pools in the nation, and the company has located their third distribution location here. McElroy Metal has opened a 10th business location at the business park, in Ashburn. In addition to these two new industries, the Turner County Development Authority is proactively marketing a new 50,000-square-foot spec building, and in keeping with plans to attract a business to the site, is undertaking billboard and direct mail marketing efforts.
