PRESIDENT continued from page 7 meetings, too, is informing legislators in attendance. This is always a key element in our success before the legislature, and legislators and ACCG have mutually benefitted from the presence of legislators invited to the District Meeting forums. Of course, we urge you to invite your legislators to the meeting in your district. This represents a unique opportunity to explain to those legislators who do attend, many issues they will appreciate hearing local government perspectives on. Legislators always appreciate the opportunity afforded at such meetings to connect with local government policy concerns, which have potential impact on the citizens that comprise their constituencies. Another consideration also makes this year’s District Meetings vitally important —in an election year, as 2008 is, it is important to remember that our policy priorities will require special focus, so as to not get “lost” in the political process. The “big issues” from the 2008 session will remain, and we anticipate new proposals to cut or alter the property tax. Beyond this consideration, which took so much time on the floor of the General Assembly last year that it wound up detracting from several very pressing statewide issues, an overriding priority this year is the need to comprehensively address Georgia’s transportation crisis. Therefore, ACCG’s top priority is pursuing a Decatur County Courthouse From the scenic shores of Lake Seminole to the busy port activity skirting Bainbridge, we’re on the move in dynamic Decatur County. We’ve prepared for quality growth with new highways, excellent schools and superb recreational programs. Here, agriculture and industry thrive in an atmosphere which encourages the work ethic. The Board of Commissioners of Decatur County extends a cordial welcome to all newcomers and business prospects. THE DECATUR COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS P.O.
