Georgia County Government - October 2008 - (Page 9) regional sales tax for funding regional transportation projects. The recommendations of the Get Georgia Moving Coalition, which includes representation from all facets of the transportation industry, local governments, state government and our own association, will serve as our guide to finding resources to bolster the state’s transportation infrastructure. A voluntary 1-cent Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) is anticipated to be ACCG’s top priority in the upcoming legislature. Other issues we have reviewed at length in the policy year to date will also be on the table – i.e., the need for statewide trauma care access, and the implementation of the Georgia Comprehensive Statewide Water Management Plan. In the coming legislative session we expect tax reform proposals to include alternatives to a statewide assessment cap and ways to eliminate property tax on vehicles, combined with measures to keep counties “fi nancially viable.” ACCG will also explore seeking a change to state law that would allow counties to collect and/or audit their local sales tax. There are other policy priorities on the table, and we invite all county officials to make plans to attend the District Meetings and weigh in on the discussions. You can always rely on the ACCG policy staff to answer any questions beforehand, and until the meetings convene in your district, are available to answer your questions, as always. Meanwhile, I look forward to seeing you at this year’s District Meetings. ■ 2008 District Meeting Schedule by Date 3rd District Monday, November 10 – 6 p.m. Maggiano’s Little Italy - Perimeter/DeKalb County Wednesday, Nov. 12 – 10 a.m. The Garden Patch, Barnesville/Lamar County Wednesday, Nov. 12 – evening Paulding County Thursday, Nov. 13 – morning Dawson County Thursday, Nov. 13 – 6 p.m. Monroe Country Club, Monroe/Walton County Tuesday, Nov. 18 – morning Warren County Tuesday, Nov. 18 – evening Laurens County Wednesday, Nov. 19 – 10 a.m. Holiday Inn Richmond Hill/Bryan County Wednesday, Nov. 19 – evening Bacon County Thursday, Nov. 20 – morning Dougherty County Thursday, Nov. 20 – evening Taylor County Friday, Nov. 21 – morning Pulaski County 4th District 1st District 2nd District 5th District 7th District 9th District 12th District 11th District 10th District 8th District 6th District For more information, Contact: Mr. Jeff Simmons, PLS 1410 Indian Trail Road Norcross, Georgia 30093 770-564-9843 jsimmons@photoscience.com Aerial Imaging & Data Collection Photogrammetric Mapping Our new Z/I Digital Mapping Camera GIS Remote Sensing Surveys Colorado Georgia Florida Kentucky Maine Maryland Pennsylvania www.photoscience.com 396390_Photo.indd 1 8/18/08 8:51:10 PM 367912_StreetSmarts.indd 1 OCTOBER 2008 www.accg.org 9:01:54 AM 9 2/26/08 http://www.accg.org
