Georgia County Government - November 2008 - (Page 25) StaffNews Amanda Deaton, Adam Edge, New ACCG Policy Interns CCG welcomed policy intern Amanda Deaton in early September, a second year graduate student pursuing her master’s in Public Administration degree at the University of Georgia in Athens. During her tenure with ACCG, Amanda will analyze county and state budgets in order to understand growth trends, assist with the annual update of the ACCG research dataesentations, and assist the policy staff with various projects. Deaton, who also graduated from UGA cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in political science, worked as a research intern for a small investment management firm based out of Tullahoma, Tenn., where she studied endowment/foundation governance of small, Christian colleges. This summer, she worked in strategic planning and performance management for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Her interests include local government management, behavioral economics, public policy, decision-making in the public sector, and government performance strategies. She hopes to cultivate and engage these interests in the future with a career in legislative affairs or public policy. Adam Edge also joined ACCG as a policy intern in September. He is pursuing his master’s in Public Administration at Georgia College and State University, where he is also a graduate assistant for the Government and Sociology Department. As an ACCG intern, Adam will assist the policy staff by attending and planning meetings, work in conjunction with fellow policy intern, Amanda Deaton, to research trends regarding state and county budgets and update numerous ACCG resources. Prior to doing graduate work, Edge completed his undergraduate degree at Georgia College and State University and graduated summa cum laude. Edge was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor’s Societies at Georgia State, and received an award for Outstanding Department Major. He was also an active member of both the Student Judicial Board and the Student Government Association, serving as the student body Vice President his senior year. Edge has worked with the Georgia General Assembly both as an intern during the 2004 session and as an assistant to the Clerk of The House of Representatives during the 2008 session. His interests include politics, state and local government administration and public policy. ■ Legal Intern Ryan Hussey Joins ACCG A Ryan Hussey, is a second-year law student at the Georgia State University College of Law. Over the course of his internship, Ryan will assist the ACCG legal team by authoring the Counties and the Law publication, finalizing the model ethics ordinance, finalizing the model mutual aid contract and by providing legal research assistance. Hussey currently lives in Decatur with his wife, Emily, but hails from Savannah and calls coastal Tybee Island his “home away from home.” He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science summa cum laude from Georgia State University and earned the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America. Upon graduation, Ryan is interested in working on behalf of local or state government, particularly on litigation, arbitration, civil rights, government contracting or land use issues.
