Georgia County Government - November 2008 - (Page 8) PRESIDENT continued from page 7 discussions with committee members, and the committee has settled on an implementation schedule of five years. Guiding principles and an outline of the association’s strengths and weaknesses have been discussed. Reviewing similar plans from counterpart associations within the Southeast has also played a significant role in our development process, and we have prepared a data overview of the interaction between our counties and ACCG. The overview encompasses meeting and training program participation, as well as ACCG service programs participation – in the Government Employees Benefit Corporation (GEBCORP), all of our insurance programs, the U.S. Communities purchasing alliance, and more. The results of two strategic planning retreats have resulted in draft reports based upon detailed data, and a close review of strategic plan summaries from Alabama, Texas, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida. The Committee has reaffirmed its guiding principals, provided detail for strategic issues and goals and the anticipated planning schedule. This new process, when implemented, will open further avenues of involvement and results as we face a future marked by relentless growth, changing politics, environmental challenges and economic uncertainties. For now the Committee is concentrating the plan on our Association membership but envisions future plans as expanding to include other “constituencies” including federal and state government agencies, state legislators, allied associations, the ACCG Associate Members, as well as private sector agencies, firms, corporations and the general public. The Strategic Planning Committee presented its draft report to the ACCG Board of Managers at the Fall Board Retreat in September. At that meeting, Dr. Williams facilitated the Board reaching consensus on report content. Now, the draft plan is slated to be presented at the ACCG November district meetings, statewide, in summary form. Survey data collected at district meetings will be tabulated and incorporated into the final report for final review and approval at the Winter Board Meeting, then presented to the ACCG membership at the 2009 ACCG Annual Conference. I am excited about the new potentials of a formal Strategic Planning Process for our stalwart association, as ACCG approaches its 100th anniversary in 2014 promoting county government effectiveness and providing stellar services, while also facilitating “one voice” for county governments before the Legislature through our policy process. ACCG has accomplished much since its inception, and yet this new process when implemented will open further avenues of involvement and results as we face a future marked by relentless growth, changing politics, environmental challenges and economic uncertainties. Please join me in supporting this important process which will lay our association’s organizational foundation for many years to come. ■ Design Upgrade • CREATIVE LANDSCAPE / HARDSCAPE SOLUTIONS • BEAUTY AND DURABILITY • DESIGN FLEXIBILITY • UPGRADED APPEARANCE • WILL NOT ROT OR DECAY For more info, contact: Tom McCarty Georgia Masonry Institute 100 Crescent Centre Parkway, Suite 665 Tucker, GA 30084 (770) 621-9324 tmccarty@mail.gcpa.org www.georgiamasonry.org GROUND ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES www.golder.com •Water Resources •Mining •Manufacturing •Transportation •Waste Management •Power •Land Development •Oil & Gas 3730 Chamblee Tucker Road Atlanta, Georgia 30341 p 770.496.1893 f 770.934.9476 Concrete Masonry is the Right Choice! 8/13/08 7:58:43 AM 378749_Golder.indd 1 hmock@golder.com 8 GEORGIA COUNTY 1 395597_GeorgiaConcrete.indd GOVERNMENT 4/16/08 2:10:30 PM http://www.gcpa.org http://www.golder.com
