He coordinated policy initiatives with the city council and managed the Atlanta Beltline project prior to its achieving regional support. Hicks also worked as the healthcare and social services caseworker for former U.S. Senator Zell Miller. In addition to his very busy job for ACCG, he is an active volunteer and is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Academy of Economic Development. He is a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association, where he sits on the Policy Committee and served as the Chair of the Transportation Committee for the last three years. He also is the Government Day Program Chair for Leadership DeKalb. Hicks was recognized in 2007 as one of Georgia’s “Top 40 Under 40” young professionals by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. He grew up in Stone Mountain and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Emory University. ducting public policy and legal research for the association on a wide range of local, state, and national issues; managing the ACCG Internship Program; and serving as the policy staff for the General County Government Committee. Prior to joining ACCG, Michele served as the Committee Aide for the Ways and Means Committee of the Georgia House of Representatives. She also worked as a legal aide for the Speaker Pro Tem and the Speaker of the House during her five-year tenure at the Georgia State Capitol and was selected as one of 20 “On the Rise” attorneys by the 2004 Fulton County Daily Report. NeSmith graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science and received her Juris Doctor degree from Mississippi College School of Law. She is a member of the Georgia State Bar Association. I n t h i s c apacity, Meggitt facilitates development of the association’s Health and Human Services policy, in coordination with Georgia’s 159 counties. She also provides technical assistance to county officials and advocates county positions before the General Assembly, state agencies and various other organizations. The main issues she is currently involved with for ACCG are trauma care funding and Medicaid reimbursement rates. Prior to her current appointment with the association, Ms. Meggitt served in several capacities including Research/Policy Administrative Assistant and as a Senior Policy Analyst to the Association’s legislative policy staff with respect to their areas of county government. She holds Bachelors degrees in Political Science and International Affairs from the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs.
