The temporary club will be replaced by a permanent, 9,980-square-foot, post-security facility by the end of the year at a cost of some $5 million. The lounge is available to passengers chosen by the airlines, typically first- and business-class travelers. For those users, the airline pays the airport $25 per person. Additionally, the lounges are part of the Priority Pass network. For 2009, the airport expects club sales to total some $5.4 million, with expenses coming in at $2.3 million. Diaz said with airports searching for non-aeronautical revenue, this is “certainly an area that can be explored.” Mobile, Ala. The Executive Club at Mobile Regional is some 600-square-feet and was built by the airport at a cost of $39,000. And, due to customer demand, a restroom will be added in April. Previously, Delta operated a Crown Room at Mobile, but decided to end the service. The airport authority saw the value in the amenity and renovated the club, making it a common-use facility, said Chloe Harkins, Mobile’s customer service manager. Travelers can use the club for $10 per day or $50 for an annual membership, according to Harkins. While the airport operates the club and it is open 24/7, it does not have dedicated staff, Harkins said. Airport staff members check on the room throughout the day, refreshing supplies as needed.
