HR Pulse - Spring 2008 - (Page 13) [PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE] Passion and Purpose Dear Colleagues: With 2008 well under way, I am energized by the opportunity to work with a diverse and dynamic Board of Directors to help you—the members—be as successful in your careers as you can possibly be. My own philosophy is that anything you undertake should be pursued with passion and purpose, and that viewpoint applies to individuals as well as organizations. That’s why I selected “Leading with Passion and Purpose” as the theme of this year’s annual conference in Austin; it’s a message you’ll hear from me all year long. We at ASHHRA pledge to help you lead your health care organizations with passion and purpose by providing you with more resources, and by keeping you informed about all the products and services available to you as a member. As the only organization dedicated solely to the health care HR profession, we also promise to lead this industry with passion and purpose. What will that look like in 2008? As you probably know, ASHHRA recently unveiled a new three-year strategic plan designed to hold the organization accountable for providing value to members and other stakeholders. The plan consists of three strategic directions related to: 1) products and services; 2) relationships, influence and advocacy; and 3) growth. Each direction consists of a set of specific goals. This plan was born of the passion and purpose we feel for the profession and will be used as a scorecard to measure how well we live up to our commitments. For starters, here are just a few of the things you can expect from us in the coming year: • Phase II of the HR Leader Model • Health care HR online community • Enhanced HR Metrics Tool • The new ASHHRA Leader Institute • More Webinars, online resources and collaboration opportunities. We hope you’ll be able to join us at the conference in Austin, where you’ll find new learning tracks, as well as programs and sessions aimed at specific groups of health care HR professions—additions that were suggested by members after last year’s conference. One of our challenges as an organization is to make sure our efforts continue to be aligned with members’ priorities. In addition to our ongoing member surveys, we look forward to staying in touch with what members truly want and need through the activities of our regional consultants, our annual chapter leadership conference in Chicago, which brings approximately 100 health care HR chapter leaders together with the board to address the issues that matter most to us all, as well as direct feedback from members to staff and board members. ASHHRA already is an incredible organization, filled with talented people who are deeply committed to this profession. With your help and ongoing input, all of us at ASHHRA look forward to making this a banner year that propels this organization to new heights. Best regards, Jeanene Martin ASHHRA 2008 President 13 HR Pulse Spring 2008
