HR Pulse - Summer 2008 - (Page 21) CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS ASHHRA HR Leader Institute The new ASHHRA Leader Institute is a year-long educational forum specifically designed for health care HR senior executives. This program, rooted in the ASHHRA HR Leader Model, trains participants to become skilled at aligning HR initiatives with strategic planning, fiscal management, and organizational development in preparation for a seat at the executive table. Keynote Speakers Renowned business speaker Barbara Glanz, whose many books on motivating and retaining employees have inspired organizational transformation throughout the world, will deliver an inspirational and passionate message. Alma W. Hughes, vice president and consultant at Lee Hecht Harrison, will talk about the “So What” of generational differences. Alma will wake you up with a lively, interactive session of sharing stories and best practices. Christine Kane, folk singer and creativity consultant, will help you discover new tools and techniques for creative leadership. ASHHRA Career Expo The new ASHHRA Career Expo, developed from the ASHHRA on-line Career Center, is comprised of comprehensive career services that include career development programs and tools, networking, and training sessions to assist with personalized career planning. Immediately following the expo, you can network with hiring health care employers and job seekers at the Career Expo Reception. Regional Breakfasts You can network with fellow colleagues in your region at the Sunday morning breakfasts. Facilitated by your regional consultant in this activity-packed event, you’ll join in the celebration of chapter award winners, receive the 2008 region update, and hear an overview of the conference. The ASHHRA Mentoring Program will be introduced at the breakfast, giving you an opportunity to serve as a mentor or mentee. ASHHRA Mentoring Program The ASHHRA Mentoring Program is designed to create a mentorship community for health care HR professionals to enhance and grow knowledge, skills, and abilities to excel in their career. Using the five competencies of the ASHHRA HR Leader Model, the program will become a resource for finding and developing talent to ultimately advance the growth of the health care HR profession. Community Outreach The ASHHRA conference outreach activity embodies the ASHHRA HR Leader Model core competency of Community Citizenship in the most heartfelt way. Attendees can give donations to Sammy’s House, an Austin based childcare facility for children who are mentally fragile and developmentally delayed. Opportunities to donate will be available at the Opening Ceremony and at the Monday evening outreach event. Pre-Conference Learning Tracks Two special learning tracks are featured as Saturday preconference sessions. The Health Care HR Basics Boot Camp Track, facilitated by ASHHRA Regional Consultants, gives new-to-the-profession HR practitioners a basic overview of HR processes, competencies, and best practices. The Development Program Track challenges seasoned HR practitioners to go to the next level of their HR leadership journey through experiential learning. ASHHRA Centre for Excellence This year the Centre for Excellence offers knowledge sharing on all ASHHRA products, services, and benefits. You’ll chat with the ASHHRA Board of Directors, committee chairs, and peers in a comfortable setting inside the exhibit hall. You can hear a series of 10 minute presentations from leading health care HR partners — no selling, it’s all knowledge sharing. Spend the rest of your time visiting other booths within the exhibit hall. Special Interest Sessions Throughout the conference, enjoy stimulating panel discussion learning sessions. Practitioners and partners from health care and other industries share experiences, stories, case studies, and best practices. The ASHHRA 44th Annual Exposition The exposition will open during non-session hours to allow participants adequate time to visit health care vendors and learn about new products, tools and resources that will add value to their health care facilities. www.ashhra.org http://www.ashhra.org
