HR Pulse - Fall 2007 - (Page 9) [PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE] Anaheim Awaits! Molly Seals Dear Colleagues: I’m always energized when Healthcare HR people come together, learn, and network. Seeing so many people at the national conference each year takes that energy to a whole new level. I chose this year’s theme of “Accelerate Your HR Leadership” because I believe it is in our power as HR leaders to help transform healthcare. To make that happen, we all need to be on a journey of continuous learning, and we need to make the journey together. It’s imperative that we each sharpen our existing skills and add new capabilities to our repertoires so that we take our knowledge, perspective, and abilities to a whole new level – a level where we make a meaningful difference. In planning the conference, we aimed to achieve the ideal blend of learning, networking, and fun. The structure recognizes the seriousness of our work and the need for attendees to learn and grow as professionals. But it’s also designed to ensure people have time to network with colleagues and have a good time together while seeing the sites in Anaheim. The ASHHRA conference is large enough to attract the best of the best – both speakers and vendors – yet small enough to offer people a risk-free environment to discover and interact with other attendees and speakers. When people ask what I’m looking forward to most at this year’s conference, I end up giving them a list. I’m very proud that the conference is designed to go beyond the traditional HR topics. You’ll find sessions on simulation-based leadership training, how to apply Lean process analysis to healthcare, global perspectives on healthcare workforce issues, and much more. We have many outstanding speakers, including best-selling author Quint Studer, who will kick things off by helping us look at ways to achieve excellence in patient care, and Max Brown, who employs humor while sharing his proven methods for motivating employees. A particularly noteworthy event is our community outreach activity, which will give conference participants the chance to contribute directly to our host community by supporting the Radio Lollipop Program at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). By putting community citizenship front and center at the national level, we hope that ASHHRA members and chapters are inspired to start outreach activities of their own. As HR professionals, we have so much to offer our organizations and our communities. And given that we’ve defined community citizenship as a core competency for HR leaders, I encourage every member and chapter to figure out the best way to give back as representatives of our great profession. I look forward to learning and exploring with you in Anaheim! n 9 HR Pulse Fall 2007 Best regards, Molly Seals ASHHRA President
