HR Pulse - Winter 2007 - (Page 9) [A SPECIAL REPORT FROM THE PRESIDENT] Our New Strategic Direction This is a very exciting time for ASHHRA to introduce its new strategic direction. I took great pleasure in unveiling the plan at this year’s annual conference in Anaheim. For those of you who were able to attend the conference, you undoubtedly had the chance to learn about this roadmap we’ve established to guide the organization over the next three years. Others of you will be reading about the strategy for the first time in these pages. I am certain that once you do, you too will feel the excitement, as this plan charts a course that makes your affiliation with ASHHRA more valuable than ever. Our role as healthcare HR professionals is being refined. We are now called upon to be partners in leading the transformation of our healthcare organizations toward greater effectiveness, accountability and transparency, and to demonstrate higher levels of competency as we deliver quality services to our local communities. These changes in our profession set the stage for the future of ASHHRA. This transformational role demands that ASHHRA be a more nimble and inclusive organization—one that embraces all healthcare HR professionals on every level of the leadership journey, one that listens to members and delivers timely and meaningful products and services and one that aligns with partners who help elevate the voice and influence of the HR professional and the needs of healthcare workforce issues to a level of key organizational strategy. To support the changing needs of its members, ASHHRA leaders have developed a plan consisting of three strategic directions for 2008 through 2010. This plan holds the organization accountable for providing value to members—healthcare HR professionals worldwide—and to other stakeholders as well, including our healthcare workforce, entire healthcare organizations, patients and others affected by the healthcare industry. Strategic Direction No. 1: Products and Services ASHHRA will be the expert in delivering relevant and efficient products and services that exceed members’ needs and expectations and position HR healthcare leaders as key strategists within their organization. The best way we can enable HR professionals to serve as key strategists is by helping them develop solutions that meet the needs of patients, employees and communities—all of which are becoming increasingly diverse. How do we do that? By harnessing technology to deliver truly useful products and services to our members, by helping them sharpen their insights into the business of healthcare and by providing opportunities to expand their leadership skills so they can work with their CEOs, CFOs and other healthcare leaders to drive the strategies of their organizations. The following are specific goals associated with Strategic Direction No. 1: • Deliver technologically efficient, user-friendly and customizable products and services that enable healthcare HR leaders to – Deliver strategic and transformational solutions for workforce issues within their rapidly changing environment – Advocate on a national level for global solutions to workforce shortage issues – Deliver talent management and employee engagement solutions that enhance retention, drive employee/patient satisfaction and support organizational financial success • Build the business acumen of healthcare HR leaders to articulate strategic solutions and demonstrate their return on investment • Efficiently advance members’ professional development, including certification, mentoring and networking opportunities • Effectively develop personal leadership and effectiveness, including ASHHRA volunteer and leadership opportunities to enhance chapter functioning and development, build revenue and increase membership. VISION By joining together, by raising our skills and by speaking with one voice, we as ASHHRA members can enhance the well-being of our employees, our healthcare organizations and the communities we serve. 9 HR Pulse Winter 2007 MISSION ASHHRA leads the way for members to become more effective, valued and credible leaders in healthcare human resources administration.
