Freestyle Furniture Peel is a clean twist on modular furniture from newly launched San Francisco-based design and manufacturing company Council. Simply put, it is convertible furniture made transparent. The effortless conversion mechanism that takes Peel from vertical to horizontal (pictured) is a clear display of minimal elegance. Use Peel flat for a streamlined look, or transform them into pieces with back support, for placement in open spaces, or simply for added comfort and stability. An ottoman becomes a chair with one simple modification. A chaise becomes a daybed or bench seating by simply “peeling” the furniture’s moveable edge. Part of the Optimism collection, Peel is available as a sofa, chaise lounge or lounge chair, and its 100-percent wool upholstery comes in green, red, blue and oatmeal. The collection’s name is very deliberate: much as the post-war optimism of the ‘50s and ‘60s generated some of America’s most-recognized design classics, Council believes that a rebirth of optimism will fuel the creativity of the coming decades.
