To facilitate this outreach, all chapters will receive RealWorld DesignWeek chapter kits from ASID in November 2007 which will include numerous resources and tools to help with promotion efforts. ASID headquarters will manage all of the national marketing, administrative and logistical aspects of this program. RealWorld DesignWeek will not only beneﬁt individual participants and ASID professional chapters, but with its high-proﬁle status, the program will bring prestige and visibility to the Society as a whole within the interior design industry and the eyes of the public. Please check back often to stay informed on this exciting venture for ASID members! takes place every two years. “IFI meetings provide an unprecedented opportunity for a meaningful exchange regarding issues facing the profession around the globe,” says ASID Past President Suzan Globus, FASID, who was invited to attend an IFI roundtable event in Singapore in 2006. “Despite the differences in languages and cultures, the commonality of issues … creates a solid platform for exchange.” The most recent assembly took place this October in Busan, South Korea. ASID is also a full voting member of IFI, and therefore has a voice in shaping the issues that are signiﬁcant to the global design community and those served by design. IFI President-elect Shashi Caan, Allied Member ASID, addresses attendees at this October’s general assembly in Busan, South Korea. With her on stage are members of the 2005 – 2007 IFI Board. “IFI thinks of itself as the United Nations of our profession, interior design,” explains Shashi Caan, Allied Member ASID, who was appointed IFI president-elect at the assembly in October. “The organization has a primary role of communicating across the globe, particularly identifying critical issues that are common to the ﬁeld among most nations, and setting policy.” Although IFI does not get involved with local issues, it is viewed as a policy-making group for the profession. Student Advancements – ASID Student Members are already one step ahead on the path to professional ASID Joins International Design Federation The International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) was founded in Denmark in 1963 to unite and provide discussion of interior design issues within a handful of European countries. Since that time, there has been tremendous growth in membership, with today’s membership at 45 national associations and 54 institutions and schools on every continent. ASID rejoins as the sole North American organization to have full membership in IFI. As a full member association, ASID can send its representatives to the IFI general assembly, which advancement. Student members who advance to allied members have up to one year after graduation to take advantage of the reduced advancement fee—only $75 per year for the first two years of allied membership. Advancing student members are also exempt from the legislative assessment during this two-year cycle, extending the savings to more than $550! Professional Advancements – ASID supports allied members in their efforts to advance professionally. Allied members in good standing, who pass the entire NCIDQ Examination, will receive a full credit toward their upcoming year of professional member dues.That’s one whole year of ASID professional membership at no cost. Members have up to one year after passing the examination to notify ASID.The dues credit is applied to dues only and ASID cannot credit or refund any late or dual-payer fees. LEED Waiver – Allied or professional members in good standing, who pass the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional Exam administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, will receive a $100 credit toward their membership dues for the upcoming year.
