inside asid ASID Foundation Update Participating in the ASID Foundation Legacy Society Will Make a Lasting Impact A number of ASID members have already made plans to contribute a portion of their estate to the ASID Foundation. The Foundation’s Legacy Society speciﬁcally recognizes those individuals who have made a bequest—a gift by will—or utilized another form of planned giving to provide a lasting legacy. This ensures the future ability of the ASID Foundation to respond to critical issues facing the interior design profession, including issues that affect the health, safety and welfare of the world community and the countless numbers of people who are served by the profession. Giving Through Your Will Have you considered including the ASID Foundation in your estate plan as a way of paying tribute to your profession and those who follow in your footsteps? An ever increasing number of individuals and families are discovering the beneﬁts of charitable-gift planning. Planned giving has become a powerful, oftenused tool in estate management, primarily due to the growing awareness of its many beneﬁts and the number of charitable-giving avenues. The easiest and most common method is giving through a will. es and speciﬁc bequests have been paid. • Contingent bequests – The charitable organization receives property only under certain circumstances, for example, if other beneﬁciaries predecease you. • Testamentary trust remainder – The charitable organization receives the assets remaining in a trust created under your will at the death of another beneﬁciary. Without one, the laws of the state determine the distribution of an individual’s property. Bequests can take several forms • Speciﬁc bequests – The charitable organization receives a specific dollar amount or speciﬁed assets. • Residuary bequests – The charitable organization receives all or a percentage of the remainder of an estate after debts, taxes, expens- or unrestricted, as long as they are in keeping with the Foundation’s policies. Including the ASID Foundation in your will is not complicated. However, since a will is a legal document designed to fulﬁll an individual’s needs and goals, it should be prepared by a lawyer.
