WIN - Spring 2011 - (Page 6)
BY MARK ROTHERT, 2010-2011 PRESIDENT, AAMGA
WELCOME TO “WIN”
N BEHALF of the American Association of Managing General Agents (AAMGA), welcome to the inaugural issue of Wholesale Insurance News, “WIN” magazine. WIN magazine is focused and dedicated solely to the wholesale insurance marketplace. Every quarter, the magazine will provide valuable and current news and information exclusively for wholesale insurance professionals and those complementing or interested in the channel. Within each issue, you will find articles that analyze and report on emerging risks and issues, offer new ideas and provide solutions to the needs, challenges and opportunities afforded by the wholesale insurance market. We hope you will enjoy the topical articles, perspectives and views and be able to utilize the ideas in your enterprise. While WIN magazine is a publication of the AAMGA – it is not about the association – it is about the entire wholesale insurance industry and all the associations, professionals, companies and thought leaders who comprise this integral marketplace. This issue’s contents are an example of the breadth of coverage you will see in each issue. The cover story by John Wepler, president of Marsh Berry, is a compelling analysis and excellent read on how wholesale managing general agents and companies can best meet the challenges ahead – is it time for us to “hold, fold or double down?” Emily Huling provides her thoughts on “Underwriting the Customer Relationship,” a unique view with valuable recommendations. Professor George Zanjani writes on his examination of the status of the industry and how to navigate through the underwriting cycles. Our interviews with Louisiana Insurance Commissioner James Donelon and General Star President Patricia Roberts offer intriguing insights, while Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers Senior Vice President Joel Wood and Excess Line Association of NY Executive Director Dan Maher present thoughts on the future of legislative and regulatory activities in the wholesale insurance industry. I also urge you to examine the abstracts of white papers written by students Lisa Blair of Appalachian State University and Kanwar Singh of Virginia Commonwealth University, and the personal views of Colleen Giles-Harris of the Scobie Group on cultivating young insurance professionals. We are indebted to the advertisers in the first issue of WIN magazine for their support in making this issue a successful one. The wholesale insurance industry is benefitted by the valuable services, products and professional advice they offer. If you are reading the e-version of WIN magazine online or on your tablet device, a click on the advertisement will take you to that company’s website for additional information. Thanks for reading our first issue. We hope you’ll enjoy this and all future issues of WIN magazine. We look forward to your comments and ideas, and invite you to share them with us at email@example.com.
