APSP Quarterly - Spring 2008 - (Page 11) This pool, located in a small backyard in Stockton, California, garnered the Chairman’s Award in the residential swimming pool category for Aqua Pool & Spa. For the 2007 competition, A PSP received 750 entries in 47 categories. From that total the judges chose 153 projects to receive an Award of Excellence: 57 gold awards, 48 silver, 30 bronze, and 18 merit. Three were of such high quality that they earned the prestigious Chairman’s Award. The judges – there were six on the 2007 judging panel – are industry experts who represent different segments of the APSP membership. They meet at t he associat ion’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, for a two-day judging marathon. Taking a category at a time, they carefully consider each entry, which includes photos and a brief form that has been stripped of all identifying information. Some categories have only a few entrants; others have as many as 50 or 60. The judges rank each entry on its creativity, innovation, design, and construction excellence. They then determine if a project should receive an award and, if so, at what level that recognition should be. SP RING 2008 | 11
