Once the initial judging is complete, the judges decide if any projects merit the Awards of Excellence Chairman’s Award. Revisiting the entries for the gold medal recipients, they look for projects of truly outstanding quality in four categories: residential swimming pool, spa/ hot tub/water feature, commercial swimming pool, and international installations of all types. Projects that meet the highest standards of 12 | AQ A P S P Q UA R T E R LY excellence receive the coveted Chairman’s Award. The judges are not required to choose a Chairman’s Award recipient in each category, and often they do not. There is no set number of Awards of Excellence each year, although about 10 to 15 percent of entries usually receive recognition. Nor are judges required to confer a certain number of awards in each category.
