In addition to reworking the APSP.org website, the plan called for the development of several new initiatives. The new weekly electronic newsletter, APSP Industry Currents; the revamped website, APSP.org; and the new APSP quarterly magazine, AQ, are all coordinated to provide improved communication with members. The new vehicles are designed to reflect regional and industry-segment happenings and, with the help of our research partner, P.K. Data, highlight market research. Technology upgrades in the APSP database and website have created an effective portal for APSP communication, education and product delivery. Our engagement of Gibbs & Soell, a New York public relations fi rm, continues to improve our media relations. A new APSP manager of consumer safety, named in July, is now coordinating our critical safety messaging. Throughout 2007, the Hot Tub Council has led efforts within the hot tub industry to explore a promotional initiative patterned on the success of similar promotions within the recreational vehicle and boating industries (see Hot Tub Council, p. 14). APSP has fully supported the initial planning efforts and will remain in full support as the initiative goes forward. In fall of 2006, APSP re-launched HotTubLiving.com, with a new look geared toward baby boomers at the peak of their earning years. The new website includes messaging about three main benefits of hot tub use: wellness, family connection and backyard experience. APSP also unveiled its redesigned PoolPeopleUSA.com website with a focus on user-friendly services. The site offers information on construction, remodeling, design, maintenance, safety, aftermarket products and an easy-to-use dealer locator. Education For many, education is a prime reason to join APSP. Following the recommendations of a special Education Task Force, a new Career Institute is being launched with a new Board of Regents to oversee it. Our valued CBP Certified Building Professional® and CSP Certified Service Professional® programs are becoming more accessible, enhanced by new virtual learning technology. New courses are also being planned to promote better application of the ANSI/APSP standards. During 2006-2007, 520 students enrolled in APSP’s CSP Certified Service Professional® and CBP Certified Building Professional® programs. A new Building Professional II Correspondence Course was rolled out in November 2006. The Advanced Pool Builder Program offered high-level technical seminars on topics such as water feature design, vanishing edge pools and flame effects. The Advanced Service Program of- APSP has expanded its role as an advocate for safety in the pool, spa and hot tub industry.
