APSP Quarterly - Winter 2008 - (Page 13) The APSP Industry Leadership Conference, held in July 2006, covered issues facing the industry as a whole, including branding, economic forecasts, tort reform, legislation and government relations. The industry panel focused on APSP’s role in establishing state-ofthe-art education programs designed to expand the workforce and “grow the economic pie” for members. The APSP Volunteer Leadership Forum (previously the APSP Networking Workshop) was held in October 2007. The 2006 meeting resulted in several new initiatives for the association, including development of a how-to chapter manual and tool kit. APSP has been working closely with many organizations on issues of mutual interest and, in some cases, programs of mutual benefit. Among the organizations are: the American Public Health Association, the Independent Pool and Spa Service Association, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, the International Code Council, the National Plasterers Council, the National Environmental Health Association, the Na- tional Park and Recreational Association, Safe Kids Worldwide, the World Water Parks Association, and the National Swimming Pool Foundation. APSP continued its partnership with P.K. Data to provide the online APSP Research Library, an extensive collection of swimming pool and hot tub industry research, giving decision makers access to consumer data, sales trends, channel intelligence and international reports. In 2006, APSP rolled out a package of allied services to save members money in their businesses. Services offered include liability insurance tailored to the pool and spa industry, reduced-cost travel, career placement, credit card processing, identity theft protection, fleet management, and shipping. such as manufacturing, distribution and retailing. The council works with an RSC manager to develop and deliver programs, undertake member recruitment and support chapters. In August 2006, APSP began formal conversion of a 20-year-old legacy database to a new, more comprehensive database that allows members to interact with their own data and update it online via the APSP website. With the new database, APSP can better track member information, improving communication and service. We look forward to another productive year in 2007-2008, with services to our members continuing to broaden and increase. A Q * The Northeast Spa & Pool Association (NESPA) and the Florida Swimming Pool Association (FSPA) are APSP affi liates, not Regional Service Centers. NESPA includes the states of New Jersey, Connecticut, eastern New York, and eastern Pennsylvania. FSPA comprises the state of Florida. Member Services During the summer of 2006, APSP Regional Service Centers were launched across the country, replacing the old regional system. Each center* has a Regional Advisory Council made up of members from active chapters in the region and from various industry segments Nina Schwartz, Jeanette Smith, Carvin DiGiovanni and Ken Suzuki contributed to this article.
